Synopsis:

“Betrayal and sacrifice in the skies…

Ten years ago, Hell Diver Xavier “X” Rodriguez fell to Earth. Those he left behind went on without him aboard the airship he once called home. Michael Everheart – the boy once known as Tin – has grown into a man and the commander of Hell Diver Raptor Team. While Michael dives to help keep the Hive in the air, Captain Leon Jordan rules with an iron fist at the helm of the ship. But unrest stirs under his strict leadership as a prophecy of hope sweeps the lower decks.

When a mysterious distress signal calls the Hell Divers to the surface, Michael and his loyal team begin to uncover long-buried truths and the secrets Captain Jordan will do anything to keep. They dive so humanity survives…but will they survive the ultimate betrayal?

Opening thoughts:

I loved the first book and was excited to pick up the next book in the series the following month. I saw that this book focuses on Michael, the young boy formerly known as “Tin,” whom X looked after when Michael’s father died. I’m so interested to follow his journey and his picking up the legacy of X.

Key notes:

Prologue

  • Commander Xavier survived in Hades for two years after finding a bunker full of supplies and a Siberian husky who helped him survive for the past year

Chapter 1

  • The former executive officer, Jordan, became the new captain and was now dating Katrina, who was three months pregnant with their child
  • He also replayed an old message years ago from Xavier, whom he decided to leave behind on Hades.
  • Michael, formerly “Tin”, grew up and became an engineer and hell diver. He was also the commander of The Raptors, the team his father and Xavier were on
  • He was also together with his childhood friend Leila.

Chapter 2

  • The ship was caught in a storm and they needed to send hell divers outside to fix the rudders. Captain Jordan called for Michael (Tin) and Leila to go as their best engineering divers, as well as Magnolia, who was potentially the person he suspected was hacking into the communications archive

Chapter 3

  • They made it to the outside of the ship

Chapter 4

  • Commander Weaver went to a psychic on the lower decks to get details on the prophecy about a man who would lead them to the promised land, which apparently was nearby fish

Chapter 5

  • While diving the rudders, Magnolia sacrificed herself so that Michael and Leila could survive

Chapter 6

  • Magnolia barely managed to survive the fall, though her parachute was tampered with
  • She landed in a building as her lines got tangled in the building

Chapter 7

  • The captain agreed to allow two hell divers to check out the lead from the recent SOS transmission, as well as search for Magnolia if Weaver received a distress beacon

Chapter 8

  • Weaver, Andrew, and Roger embarked on their mission to the surface for supplies and possibly to find Magnolia

Chapter 9

  • Magnolia made her way down the 30-story building and fended off a bird-like creature and a glowing tree vine creature
  • Magnolia made contact, and Weaver decided to break off from the mission to rescue her while the others continued to the mission objective

Chapter 10

  • Michael opened a handwritten note Captain Ash wrote him 5 years ago, right before she passed

Chapter 11

  • They barely fought off a Siren attack, but Andrew got taken back to the lair, the bunker they were meant to search

Chapter 12

  • Michael and Leila visited Jenga, who told them about her past and the secrets of the hidden archives of the past

Chapter 13

  • Weaver thought it would have been smarter to just leave Andrew, but he decided to keep his oath and not regret his actions this time by at least trying to rescue him

Chapter 14

  • Magnolia and Roger escaped a huge, angry Siren and made it to the cryogenic lab full of empty pods that were broken into

Chapter 15

  • Weaver narrowly escaped the siren nest by falling into a pool of water, and also helped end Andrew’s life as he was being eaten slowly alive
  • “Handle your present with confidence. Face your future without fear” said Michael’s fortune cookie from 10 years ago

Chapter 16

  • They learned the Sirens were an experiment of fast and forced evolution by the ITC scientists

Chapter 17

  • Leila and Michael made their way to the others

Chapter 18

  • Weaver found the AI and sent a transmission to The Hive to pick them up. Captain Jordan also sentenced Jenga to a public execution via launch tube

Chapter 19

  • Michael came up with a plan to avoid the Sirens and get to the bunker using boosters and a parachute to fly through the window of the room Weaver was in
  • The five hell divers managed to convene in the room and regrouped. They discussed Jordan being a traitor and how they found a ship, which the AI would pilot

Chapter 20

  • Katrina ended up finding out about all of X’s transmissions over the years and how the hell divers wanted to take over the ship from Jordan
  • They made it to the small airship, and then Weaver went back to get Roger

Chapter 21

  • The giant Siren killed Weaver when they got to the hangar. Then they made it to the ship, which was 1/3 the size of the Hive but brand new
  • Michael named the ship Deliverance as he held rank, and they plotted a course to Florida, which was X’s last known coordinates

Closing thoughts:

Another great follow up to the first book in the series. I’m glad that for the most part, the people I wanted to survive did by the end. However, I’m really excited to finally meet back up with X in the following books.

Nutshell:

Michael leads Team Raptor as they unravel the mysteries of distress signals from the surface. Captain Jordan tries to keep The Hive alfoat, which requires hard decisions and sacrifices.
