Opening thoughts:

I’ve been meaning to read a Star Wars book for a while now. I’m excited because this book has a lot of reviews and a high average rating. Also, I enjoyed Ahsoka’s character from the little I’ve watched of her in Star Wars: Clone Wars, so I’m very curious about how her stories continue before the events of the Disney+ series.

Key notes:

Chapter 1

  • Ahsoka escaped the planet she had been on for the longest in a while

Chapter 2

  • Since leaving the Jedi order and after order 66 that wiped out the Jedi, her connection to the force felt different

Chapter 3

  • Ahsoka helped fix a machine for Kaeden in exchange for food rations

Chapter 4

Chapter 5

  • She constantly grappled with survivor’s guilt over all the Jedi being wiped out and questioned why she survived when others didn’t
    • She knew it was because she chose to walk away and got lucky

Chapter 6

  • Ahsoka was intrigued by the “family” culture they had where people looked after each other and took people in

Chapter 7

  • She decided to move her ship out of the port and somewhere more secure/secluded

Chapter 8

Chapter 9

  • Ahsoka came up with a suggestion to their group to slow down crop production

Chapter 10

Chapter 11

Chapter 12

  • After the corrosion mission, Ashoka found out that the crews had their own reckless plan
    • She called them out and went out to rescue the crew that went on the explosives mission

Chapter 13

  • Ahsoka had to reveal her force powers when she rescued them

Chapter 14

  • Ahsoka told them she was a Jedi in hiding and was trying to keep her identity lowkey to keep them safe. But Kaeden was irrationally upset that they didn’t help them sooner
  • Reader’s note: Wow, Kaeden is such an ungrateful and irritating person. She’s blaming Ahsoka for not helping more, and now making unfair and mean assumptions about her like how she probably never had a family, friends, and just clones who did whatever she said. What a brat.
  • Kaeden was dumb and went back into town, and almost immediately got caught

Chapter 15

  • Ahsoka managed to sneak in and rescue Kaeden after she was drugged and tortured

Chapter 16

  • Leia’s adoptive father Bail Organa reflected on the potential ally in the reports of Jedi activity

Chapter 17

  • She returned to the Fardi planet

Chapter 18

  • While doing off-planet deliveries for the Fardis, she also did one-off missions helping people randomly. Though she tried to keep her identity a secret as much as possible

Chapter 19

  • Stormtroopers showed up at the Fardi house to search it but found nothing

Chapter 20

  • Ahsoka escaped to a nearby planet to lay low, but then someone on behalf of the black Sun organization tracked her there and confronted her
  • Obi-Wan reflected on the events that led to him being there on Tatooine

Chapter 21

Chapter 22

  • She managed to evade the Black Sun agent, but was caught by a larger ship when she escaped the planet’s orbit

Chapter 23

  • A double-bladed red lightsaber force user confronted Kaeden and the others at the caves

Chapter 24

  • She discovered that the large ship that caught her was sent by Senator Bale Organa, someone who the Jedi and Senator Amadala trusted, and R2D2 was also on board and covered for her
  • The senator figured out it was Ahsoka and was ecstatic about it

Chapter 25

  • She finally met with Senator Organa and discussed working together to fight the empire and save force sensitive people

Chapter 26

  • She went to the planet that used to be a holy place for lightsaber crystals, but it has already been taken over by the empire
  • She searched the force for the solution of where she might find her new crystals, and it led her to Raada

Chapter 27

  • She met with Miara and decided to help rescue Kaeden. She also meditated on how to approach the whole situation with wanting to help others but overcoming her fear of attachment and hardening her heart because of loss

Chapter 28

  • She fought the gray creature with the red lightsaber and managed to defeat him fairly easily with her superior training and control
  • From her defeated opponent’s lightsaber crystals and parts, she was able to finally construct her own dual lightsabers. When she was done, they lit up with a bright white color
  • She managed to rescue Kaeden easily from the compound with the help of her new weapons

Chapter 29

  • They managed to escape the planet successfully

Chapter 30

  • She told Bale that the reason why her lightsabers were white was because she freed them from the corrupted nature of their previous owner who made them bleed red
  • Ahsoka explained that she’s been looking to place herself in a middle ground, between being alone, and working in the middle of it as a Jedi
    • She suggested working as/with Bale’s intelligence network to train and find out where their resources are most needed and help out where she can
  • She officially joined the rebellion under the code name Fulcrum

Closing thoughts:

I enjoyed this book and it was a solid addition to the Star Wars universe. I’m really enjoying listening to these Star Wars stories because it’s much easier to pick up compared to a one-off book or a new series. In those cases, I have to pick up a lot of new context, figure out the universe/world of the story, and then once acclimated, I can enjoy the story. But for these Star Wars stories, I already know the context of the universe/setting, and most of the main characters in play, and I can focus on new characters and the story unfolding.

One thing I was a bit disappointed about for Ahsoka was that I was expecting more out of her in terms of being a Jedi, force user, and someone who trained with Anakin. I suppose it showed when she faught the main antagonist force user at the end. However, I would have personally liked a bit more action and a showcasing of her combat abilities way more. But that’s just me as a Star Wars fan who loves the action the most.

Overall, great book and it makes me excited to read more entries in the entire Star Wars universe.

Nutshell:

Ahsoka, who believed she was able to escape the galactic war, gets pulled back into it. After leaving the Jedi Order near the end of the Clone Wars and before joining the rebel alliance, she finds herself on the Outer Rim moon of Raada.
