Opening thoughts:
We’ve finally made it to the last volume of the series! I’m sad that it’s going to be over soon, but I’m excited to hear how this saga wraps up. I already know what happens in the story, but it’s always enjoyable to hear how the ending unfolds and all of the storytelling in between.
Key notes:
Chapter 1: Taking Up Arms
- Jinwoo started his assault on the Army of Chaos, trying to slowly grow his army with his dead foes
Chapter 2: The Trap
- One of the Monarchs confronted Thomas Andre in America, but he was surprised to see 130,000 shadow soldiers and Bellion appear out of his shadow
Chapter 3: Lure
- Jinwoo lured the entire army to him and then used Dragon’s Fear, an ability from Kamish’s rune stone that decimated any and all enemies weaker than him
Chapter 4: Go For Broke
- He fought the Dragon Monarch in a large shadow form
- The 1:1 battle was just a distraction so the army of the rulers and the six Rulers themselves could ambush the Monarch of Destruction and kill him
Chapter 5: The End of the War
- Even though the war ended, Jinwoo asked to use the Cup of Reincarnation again one last time. Then, he could deal with the Monarchs personally in the rift between dimensions and save all the lives lost on Earth in the war
- After time reversed, he spent two years during middle school fighting the Monarchs on his own
- In college, he saw all of the people who were no longer affected by the war, and was happy they got to live ordinary lives
Bonus Stories
One
- A man who joined the Hunters’ Association tried to get Jinwoo to quit being a hunter to save his own life, but he couldn’t do it. He ended up trying to recruit people to join, like healers, to help the hunters
Two
- Jinwoo got to relive his life from 10 years ago and enjoy it a bit before heading to fight the monarchs
- He spent 27 years in the rift between dimensions fighting the Monarchs, and the war was almost done. Time was different here, so only 2 years would have passed in the real world
- The Monarch of Destruction respected Jinwoo for revealing that it was his choice to revive the Monarchs so that he could kill them all himself. And after over two dozen years, he managed to destroy 10 million of their soldiers with only his 100,000
Three
- Jinwoo returned home and changed his appearance back to a teenager. He was officially the most powerful being among the Rulers and Monarchs
Four
- Igris recounted his journey meeting Jinwoo and serving under him, gradually deepening his loyalty and bond with his new master
- Igris revealed that the one wound Jinwoo got from his last battle with the Dragon Monarch was because he protected Igris from being annihilated
Five
- Jinwoo started high school, made a friend, and became the ace of the track team. The former president Woo was now a detective and stopped by the school to ask him about an investigation
- Detective Woo accidentally got all his memories back and talked with Jinwoo briefly, overwhelmed by his sacrifice for the world to live peacefully
Six
- Alien titan beings were coming to Earth, drawn by Jinwoo’s power, and wanted to devour the planet
Seven
- Fang recounts his life in the shadow realm, interacting with his comrades and feeling gratitude for his king for bestowing human emotions onto them
Eight
- The night before his university entrance exam, Jinwoo had a dream that the Dragon Monarch became him during the double dungeon incident
Nine
- The U.S. military commanders were in shock watching the footage of Jinwoo easily defeating the monstrous titans, and wanted to uncover the man’s identity
- He made contact with the former Iron and Hae-In at a track event
- It was discovered that his dad also regained his memories after the cup was used, but asked the Rulers to wipe his memory at his request so he could be a normal dad for Jinwoo
- He finished the entrance exams and went on a Christmas Eve date with Hae-In, and they kissed
Ten
- He solved the suicide death of a young woman and sentenced her abusive, adoptive father to an eternity of torture before releasing her shadow
- He had dinner with Jinho, who said he was going to propose to Jinah. Jinho also asked about Jinwoo and Hae-In’s 6-month-old baby
- Igris and Bellion were arguing about whether to teach his son swordsmanship or academics first
- He visited the former President Go on his deathbed and granted his wish of giving him his memories back from the previous timeline. He passed away full of joy
- Hae-In called Jinwoo, panicked because their baby boy was floating. Jinwoo reassured her that he would show him how to fly and control his powers later
Epilogue
One
- Beru recounted how the only two people who didn’t look at him with fear were Jinwoo and his baby son
Two
- Jinwoo had to seal his son’s powers and memories of the shadow soldiers so that he could acclimate to living with normal humans while he grew up
Three
- Suho had a weird reputation in his school, but nobody messed with him because he was so strong
Four
- Suho was brought into a castle lair and had to fight a knight with a red mane. He figured out how to level up first so that he could defeat the boss knight
Five
- He also managed to defeat the humanoid ant, though it was a close battle. He could tell the ants held back at points
- Suho made it to the end of the gauntlet but couldn’t make it past Jinwoo yet. Jinwoo decided it wasn’t time to restore his power or memories
Six
- He flew his wife into space and gave her a necklace as a wedding anniversary gift. He then sent her back and fought the blue fog monsters in space, attracted to his power
Closing thoughts:
Fantastic book, I think this one is my favorite because the bonus stories and the Epilogue really gave the world more depth and color. I love how the author wrapped up everything and actually gave everyone a happy ending. I think what I love about Jinwoo is that he’s a protagonist you’d want to aspire to be like. He has immense courage, humility, conviction, and persistence. He reminds me of Zoro from One Piece, which is probably why I love his character so much.
Highly recommend this series to anyone who likes the anime-type stories, or action sci-fi stories with an emphasis on magic and fighting monsters.
Nutshell:
Jinwoo defeats the Monarchs, goes back in time, and defeats them all again himself. Also, random stories of the world in the peaceful timeline that Jinwoo created.
