Solo Leveling, Vol. 7 by Chugong

Synopsis:

““THIS WILL EITHER BE THE END OF HUMAN HISTORY OR A NEW BEGINNING.”

The murders of several distinguished S-rank hunters rock the world, and Jinwoo knows it’s only a matter of time before the perpetrators strike again. The declaration of war comes earlier than expected, however, in the form of a colossal gate looming in the skies above Seoul. With the Hunter’s Association of Korea struggling to adjust to its new normal and the Monarchs picking off the top hunters one by one, will Jinwoo be able to keep everyone safe from the biggest disaster mankind has ever faced?” -Audible

Opening thoughts:

Key notes:

Chapter 1: The New President of the Hunter’s Association

  • Jinwoo was on a mission to level up Beru and Igris. He also received daggers forged from Kamish’s body

Chapter 2: Korea in Crisis

  • He used the association gym to test out his new daggers, which were extremely powerful
  • Jinwoo took Hae-In out on a date because she was his only friend. She said they were friends when fighting the angel statue
  • Only with Jinwoo could she relax and not worry about looking out for others
  • He took her on a maximum speed ride on his dragon, which was a better thrill alternative than the roller coasters for them

Chapter 3: The King of Beasts

  • Thomas confronted the Beast Monarch but was overpowered

Chapter 4: The Pincer Attack

  • Jinwoo managed to kill the Bug Monarch, but was killed by the Beast and Frost Monarchs. That activated his unknown evolution skill and revived him
  • Jinwoo unexpectedly went back in time to the moment he woke up after the double dungeon incident
  • It was an illusion created by the former Shadow Monarch

Chapter 5: Memories of the Shadow Monarch

  • The Rulers killed the Supreme Being who made them all. Ashborn was the only one who stood up to them before failing
  • He then discovered a hidden power granted to him to become the Shadow Monarch
  • He discovered that the purpose of the gates and hunters was to help prepare the humans to survive the battle against the Monarchs
  • The Shadow Monarch chose him because of his history of struggling with death and always coming back
  • The Architect created the system so that he could handle the Shadow Monarch’s power
  • He met the former Shadow Monarch, Ashborn, and was truly and fully reborn as the new Shadow Monarch
    • The system was obsolete, so it deleted itself
  • Jinwoo easily killed the Beast and Frost Monarchs with his full power unleashed

Chapter 6: The King’s Fury

  • The person who protected Jinwoo while he was respecting was his father, who used more power than his body could handle while fighting the Monarch
  • Jinwoo got to talk with his dad for a brief moment before he turned to ash
  • Jinwoo’s example galvanized the countries all over the world to help support him, as they all knew he was humanity’s hope
  • Jinwoo inspired hunters to come together again after 9 years of them keeping to their own countries
  • 100,000 of the former Shadow Monarch’s shadow soldiers appeared out of the gate to report to Jinwoo
    • Among them was the Grand Marshal Bellion

Chapter 7: The Inheritance

  • Jinwoo met and tested the shadow soldiers he inherited from the former Shadow Monarch

Chapter 8: Individual Preparation

  • Jinwoo asked the Hunter’s Association to call all of the counties together to tell them about the gates
  • Also, Chairman Yoo confronted him about curing his sickness, and Jinwoo only asked for the chairman to take care of his family in case anything happened to him

Chapter 9: Pride and Delusion

  • He warned the world to stay away from the large gates as the war between the Rulers and Monarchs would begin, and millions of magic beasts would come out of those 8 gates
  • Jinwoo decided to help China first since their gate was closest to Korea

Chapter 10: The Advent of the Dragon King

  • Jinwoo decided to confront the Dragon Monarch
  • He had Norma Selner see into the future and confirmed he would battle a lonely war to save humanity
  • Jinwoo and the Dragon King spotted each other

Closing thoughts:

Another fantastic volume, and I’m always on the edge of my seat. Each book always leaves me wanting more, and it’s always depressing when I finish each book. I think this sentiment explains how much I love this series. Only one book left!

Nutshell:

Jinwoo fully becomes the new Shadow Monarch and prepares for the war against the Monarchs.
