Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II by Sean Williams

Synopsis:

“As ruthless apprentice to Darth Vader, Starkiller was mercilessly schooled in the ways of the dark side, commanded to exterminate the last of the purged Jedi Order, and groomed for the ultimate Sith power play: Assassination of the Emperor. He served without question, killed without remorse, and lost his heart without warning to beautiful Imperial fighter pilot Juno Eclipse, never suspecting that he was just a tool in the schemes of his masters – until it was too late to escape their lethal betrayal.

Juno mourned Starkiller as dead…but now he is back, purged of all memories and programmed to kill. And as fate brings Juno and Starkiller closer to reuniting, with Darth Vader determined not to lose his assassin a second time, they will both have to make a stand. The prize is freedom. The punishment for failing will be eternal enslavement to the dark side of the Force…” -Audible

Opening thoughts:

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, so I was very excited to continue straight into reading this book.

Key notes:

Part One: Revolution

Chapter 1

  • This Starkiller was a clone implanted with the memories of the former apprentice
  • He managed to escape from Darth Vader into a ship and began to seek out Juno

Chapter 2

Chapter 3

  • Starkiller fought his way to the gladiator arena and met up with General Koda

Chapter 4

  • Juno met with Organa to recruit more people to the alliance

Chapter 5

Chapter 6

  • Every being is the sum of their experiences and actions
  • Sometimes we don’t know what our primary programming is or was until we’ve lived long enough to look back on our lives

Part Two: Revelation

Chapter 7

  • Starkiller questioned his existence but Koda was certain he was Galen because Jedi are impossible to clone, and he feels the same presence in his former self within the force
  • Koda wanted them to fight the empire and help the alliance, but Galen wanted to find Juno because it was important to him

Chapter 8

  • Juno admitted that she hasn’t and still cannot move on from Starkiller’s death

Chapter 9

  • Starkiller arrived on the planet of Dagoba, which was strong in the Force. But there was also an evil radiating from the cave formed by the roots of a sickly tree
  • He met a small green creature at the cave whose presence was much greater than his size
  • The creature accurately read that Starkiller was lost, missing a part of himself
    • He then said that whatever he seeks, he’ll only find it inside himself
  • He then has visions of being Darth Vader, and then later Juno

Chapter 10

  • Juno chatted with Princess Leia and gave her advice as she realized she was Leia’s role model

Chapter 11

  • They learned from a scientist that you can’t clone Jedi or force-sensitive people because it interferes with the cloning process, and the subjects go mad
  • Starkiller realized he was afraid of Juno, and let her help him
  • Just the thought of her had a profound affect on him. He would fight an entire army and a hundred emperors to save her if he had to, and would sacrifice anything
    • That was a frightening thought
  • Koda made him realize that he loved Juno. And he believed some obsessions were worth it

Chapter 12

  • Juno’s squad and ship were attacked and boarded by camouflage troops. She ended up getting captured by Boba Fett

Chapter 13

  • He found Proxy, who told Starkiller that a green armored bounty hunter took Juno and captured her while she was injured as bait for him

Chapter 14

  • Time slowed down and stopped when she saw Starkiller come back, and in an instant, everything made sense
  • Starkiller fought through the enemies to pursue the bounty hunter with Juno in tow

Chapter 15

  • Starkiller had another vision of him failing to defeat Darth Vader. He then committed to going back to Camino to face him and save Juno

Part Three: Retribution

Chapter 16

  • Juno contemplated how he could be alive again and what the ramifications of that were
  • She hoped that his whole reason for coming back was because he loved her, and that would make all the difference in her mind

Chapter 17

  • Starkiller always wondered who Vader was before falling under the control of the Emperor
    • Perhaps he was a Jedi?
    • But in his eyes, everything was black and white.
  • Starkiller’s plan was to use the salvation ship to ram the shield and the shield generator protecting the planet

Chapter 18

Chapter 19

  • He used the force and, invigorated by saying Juno, and being close to death, managed to steer the ship to its target

Chapter 20

  • Even though a normal person couldn’t have survived being on the hull of the ship while it exploded, she knew that anything was possible with Starkiller since he had come back from the dead multiple times already

Chapter 21

  • He had a vision of his mother, whom he didn’t know existed until that moment. He then discovered that he was the child of two Jedi, though he was unsure where he was born
  • Starkiller caught a ride on a Rebel Y-wing fighter
  • He fought Vader, along with several Proxy, droids, disguised as people he knew, and then he had to face defective clones of himself

Chapter 22

Chapter 23

  • He was about to defeat Vader, but got a strong vision of Juno being dead, which he interpreted as her fate if he struck down Vader at that moment

Chapter 24

  • Starkiller submitted to Vader to save Juno. She took an opportunity to try and strike Vader from behind with one of the lightsabers, but he countered her with a force push at the last moment

Chapter 25

  • He defeated Vader, and Koda came with other soldiers to take him into custody. However, Proxy told Starkiller he couldn’t revive Juno

Chapter 26

Chapter 27

  • Juno awoke, and they were finally reunited

Epilogue

Closing thoughts:

Another fantastic story and a great follow-up to the first book! I liked how this book ended, and I’m glad it was overall satisfying.

One Takeaway / Putting into practice:

My one takeaway is the only highlighted note I took, but I felt like it was very profound for Starkiller’s story:

  • Sometimes we don’t know what our primary programming is or was until we’ve lived long enough to look back on our lives

Like Proxy, we all yearn to have a “primary programming” or a purpose. And sometimes this isn’t always easily known, but always worth finding.

Nutshell:

Starkiller’s story continues as he grapples with possibly being a clone of the former Galen Marek, while also trying to reunite with and save Juno.
