It’s about the “Journey”

Journey – Daily Writing Prompt

We’ve heard it countless times before:

“It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey…”

But why??? Let’s break this down.

-The journey is about 99%, and the destination is 1%. If you don’t enjoy the journey, you’re not enjoying the vast majority of the adventure.

-When you get there, you realize its not what you get, its what you become in the process. The fulfillment doesn’t come from reaching the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, its how much you’ve grown in order to achieve what you have. I’ve learned that we don’t get what we want, we get what we are.

-Most of your memories will be from the journey, not the destination. And its within these experiences and memories that you’ll get the most value.

-It’s like if you went to college for 4-years, did nothing but study and achieved a perfect GPA. Then you turn around and realized you didn’t make any friends, created no memories, had no fun experiences, didn’t participate in any events, joined any interesting groups, learned anything new, nothing. Now you get to find a job and do the same boring thing until you get married, have kids, retire, and then look back on what? You were so focused on the destination that you missed the entire journey.

-Even better, if you take the journey with others, you create lasting memories with them. Life is about relationships with others. In my opinion, that’s where you get the true value out of life, the most fulfillment.

-If different people reach the same destination through different paths, then each path adds its own unique perspective and experience to the story. It’s like if a dozen random strangers meet while backpacking through Europe, all coming from vastly different backgrounds, and yet somehow came together. It’s crazy how much they are so different, and yet so similar.

-Many people like the band Journey. They’re the ones always telling people to “don’t stop believing.” Personally, their style of music is not my cup of tea. Nonetheless, solid advice. I’m told belief is a good thing.
